copyright usage of web screenshots

Can I take a screen shot of a web site and print it in my own promotional material without getting permission from the owner of that web site. Can I reproduce it in print or on my own web site strictly for the purpose of ''showing my prospects what their competitors sites' look like

Simply put, "no, you can't." By dint of creating the site in the first place, the owner of that site owns a copyright on the materials. You must, accordingly, seek the owner's permission before using an image of the site.
