Hello,

I am hoping you can help.

I am interested in filing a cyber libel suit against a person who posted a picture of me on a pornographic website and ''outed'' me as a lesbian. I am not a lesbian and unfortunately the picture was posted anonymously. Is there a way to trace the IP address if the person who posted the picture.. Becuase I assume you can not file a libel suit if you dont know who your are filing it against..

It is often possible to trace the IP address from which a posting is made to a specific individual. However, there are measures a poster can take that mask his or her true IP address.

An additional note: there is no substantive difference between what you're calling "cyber libel" and any other libel. The medium isn't the issue, the defamatory content of the statement is.
