Legal Question in Technology Law in New York

DVD copyright law

I am interested in buying a show on DVD from the 1970s called ''In Search Of''. Unfortunately, the show won't likely be released onto DVD officially (due to a disagreement between Leonard Nimoy and Rod Serling's estate), but it is available on DVD through people who have taped it off the History Channel and transferred it to DVD and are selling it online. I love this show so much and want to buy it, but don't want to break any laws doing so. There are episodes on YouTube, which I assume are there legally. Is ''In Search Of...'' legal to buy the way I previously mentioned? Thank you!

Re: DVD copyright law

The answer is that those people selling DVDs made from their recordings of a broadcast are violating the copyright law. The copies they make are illegal, and there is no way to legally purchase such a copy.

Your sole legal alternative, assuming that you accurately describe the rights dispute that has kept the show off the commercial market, is to wait for a rerun and tape it yourself.
