Legal Question in Technology Law in New York
internet privacy
I ex-boyfriend accused me of reading his e-mail. It is my computer and his e-mail info automatically comes up if I log onto my own computer. Also-he gave me his password--name removed--long time ago. Is it--name removed--federal crime to read his e-mail?

Re: internet privacy
I don't think you have to worry about being prosecuted and sent up river, unless he expressly told you not to read it and you did anyway. But you have apparently violated a more recent expectation by him that you will not read the mail. Apparently he gave you his access information and some time later decided he didn't want you reading the email. If he was your ex-boyfriend already when he got mad at you, then your violation of his trust is even greater. Just don't read it any more and he'll probably change the password anyway.
