Internet Promotion Schemes
The dating site MATE1.COM sends me three email responses from members who have viewed my MATE1.COM profile. The problem is, I never signed up with MATE1.COM. Turns out they used my email address to promote their service by making it look like I signed up with them. Is this fraud? It feels as if my email address has been stolen for promotional use.

Re: Internet Promotion Schemes
It may well be that Mate1.com has violated the CAN-SPAM Act but that can only be determined by closely reading all the content of the e-mail itself. Because the Act is quite full of loop holes -- it essentially legalizes spam that meets certain requirements, this careful examination is required before a definitive answer can be given.
