clubs

is it legal for a club to not let a guy in without a girl? what about gay couples or just guys on vacation?

It is a violation of the public accomodation and civil rights law to discriminate against anyone based on Sex, race, Ethnicity, etc. You can sue, but it might cost you more than not suing. On the other hand you could find a diffrent club to hang out at
