Hipa protection of a client right not to disclose medical information
I am a case worker for the department of homeless services. I have a client who refused to disclose any medical information about her medical condition or that of her children during the initial intake. Do a client have to disclose this information to his/her case manager?

Re: Hipa protection of a client right not to disclose medical information
Yes, your client has a right not to disclose such information; however, her refusal to do so means that you do not have to provide government services given that such a disclosure is normally a requirement for such services. You may want to check with your supervisor or your legal department because you may be able to "over ride" the mother's decision not to disclose medical information if doing so is necessary in order to provide medical care to her children.
