Legal Question in Construction Law in New York
About 5 years ago a friend of mine asked me to act as a construction consultant on an investment property he wanted to rebuild, keep schedule, budget, etc. I agreed. After the project was completed he sold the property to his sister-in law. I now received a summons from a subrogee of the sister-in law suing me for a flood that occurred in her home from the bathroom. I had no contract with my friend, in fact I wasn't even in business then I was actually working for another company. Do I need to hire an attorney for this? Does this subrogee even have a case?

Q. Do I need to hire an attorney for this?
A. Its probably a good idea.
Q. Does this subrogee even have a case?
A. That would depend on the work performed and whether there was a proximate cause to the damage to the claimant. I cannot give a better answer since I need a full working knowledge of the facts.
