Legal Question in Construction Law in New York
Construction company not completing work..
Hi,
I currently am getting work done by a construction company on 2 of my houses. This company has given me invoices stating the work to be done. I have made payment to the company for the work. It is going to be over a year since they started working. Before they started working I asked if any permits were going to be needed for the job which the company was going to do. The company said that there would be no need for any permits and if there was going to be any they would take care of everything. They told me the sum I had to pay and said I would have to do nothing else or pay nothing else to anyone or any other company. They told me that their company has been in business for over twenty years. Trusting this because they were licensed and deemed to be professional I made payment for the work. As the work started about June of last year every thing was fine until someone made a call to the department of building and made a complaint. The inspectors from the department of building came and inspected the site and left an ECB violation. It was labeled BO4-$$-$$$ work without a permit. Violation type CN- construction. I confronted the company and told them about the violation. They said the violation was nothing to be worried ab

Re: Construction company not completing work..
I am sure you know it IS something to worry about. Your case may be complicated by a lack of well-drawn contract documents, but that's something construction lawyers deal with quite frequently. If I put my phone number in this email, the censorbot will preclude the message going through, but my firm is listed in the phone book as well as Martindale-Hubbell, where you will see that I am one of many aV-rated attorneys in the firm. Feel free to call; I'll be back in New York City onn Tuesday morning.
