Legal Question in Construction Law in New York

Dormitory Sizing Regulations

I am currently residing in a residence hall at a college in New York. I believe my room to be below the minimum sizing regulations. The room is listed as a handicapped SINGLE, yet they have shoved me and another person into this room, which is less than half the size of the other dorms here.

I believe there should be some compensation in order at least, such as the refunding part of my residence fees, as I was charged for a normal sized room.

Please tell me the legal size regulations for dormitories with an occupancy of 2, and if you think I have a case.

Re: Dormitory Sizing Regulations

I can't give you that information off the top of my head. I can however tell you that you can call the NYS Dormatory Authority and ask them for the standard. If your room does not fit, you may have a case against them in small claims and if there was any discrimination against you, in a civil rights action under the Executive law.

Good luck.
