Legal Question in Construction Law in New York
failure to obtain a building permit
Say one put up a building without a building permit. The town has sent a letter stating legal action will be taken if there is no repsonse. What can the town actually do?

Fines against the owner and the contractor. Jail for the owner and contractor.
Court order mandating removal of the building, followed by jail for contempt of court if the order is not complied with.
Demolition, removal of the debris and placing a lien against the land to cover the cost of the demolition and removal.
