Lein on propety by contractor
what right does a contractor have to put a lein on our property just because he unjustly claimed we owed him money? What can we to to discharge it?

He has every right to put a mechanic's lien on the property. It is in the law.
Now to discharge it you must either pay him, or put up a bond through an insurance company, or hire a lawyer and sue the contractor to remove the lis pendence (which is another word for the lien.
Take the anger away from the incident and make a good business choice. That is the way to handle it. Emotions could wind up making you make choices that are expensive and unnecessary. You ought to at least consult with a lawyer.
