Legal Question in Construction Law in New York
Mechanics Lien: Are They Fair to the Consumer?
Hello:
I have been involved in a dispute with a GC who was building a spec house for me in Suffolk County. He slapped a lien on me after he basically walked off the job. Now I find, according to a certified engineer and countless contractors, that the phase that I paid for have failed inspections. He did not produce any inspection seals and is now demanding payment for the 3rd phase. Does this in any way negate the lien at all?
Thank You,

They lapse by themselves with a renewal period.
The $$ must be substanial because I generally do not take them unless at least $10,000.00 is at issue becasue of the time and cost involved.
Good Luck
