Legal Question in Construction Law in New York

NYS Construction Law

NYS has a law that was designed to protect homeowners against shodding/neglegent workmanship by a contractor or contractors in new construction. I know suit has to be filed within 3 years of the completion of the project. I don't know where or how to find a copy of this law....help!!!!!!

Re: NYS Construction Law

Although I am not 100% certain, I am aware of no such limitation period in New York.

The statute of limitations for a breach of contract action is 6 years. This is the case in most construction cases.

The statute of limitations for a contract for the sale of goods under the New York Unified Commerical Code is 4 years.

The statute of limitations for negligence (e.g. personal injury) is 3 years.

The New York City Department of Consumer Affairs is empowered to determine complaints by homeowners against contractors. I do not know if they have their own particular limitation period. You can check their website.

Hope this helps.
