Legal Question in Construction Law in New York
Property Liens
I performed about $30,000 worth of construction work for my sister that when I finished the work she copped an attitude and had the state police ask me to leave her property. She refuses to pay me for the work performed. I did not have a written contract but feel I am entitled to a fair market value of the services rendered.
Can I put a lien on the property or do I have to go to court and battle it out?

Re: Property Liens
Depending on when the work was done, you should be able to file a mechanics' lien. However, to force payment, you will have to sue.
