Legal Question in Consumer Law in New York
re: art dealer. Wow, thanks for beating me up on this when it's the other side that has not acted in good faith. I needed a simple answer to a simple question -- do I or do I not have a legal right to know what the painting sold for? Do I or do I not have a legal right to a correct bill of sale that states the real buyer and the real sale amount? Does the new owner have the right to lie, yes LIE, about the provenance of the painting and get away with it?

You present a complex matter that requires physical consultation with review of all documents and synopsis of conversations, witnesses, timeline, the adverse party, usual customs and norms in the industry, etc. I am afraid this forum is too confined to provide a more comprehensive response to your inquiry than first meets the eye. Furthermore, the issue of the ultimate value of the art work is inconsequential under the facts you present, nor apparently enforceable without litigation.
