Legal Question in Consumer Law in New York
Car dealership ripped me off
I bought a car Friday. The dealership ripped me off by charging me for things they said I was getting ''free'' ($10,000 worth!). They also forged my co-signers initials on a document and put on the loan ap that she makes $60,000/year when she makes $30,000/year. Does this invalidate the contract? What are my rights?

Re: Car dealership ripped me off
If it was an oral promise and you then signed documents showing that you were paying for these items, then it is difficult to prove. Certain add-ons, such as extended warranties, are required to be disclosed on the Retail installment contract. If not properly disclosed, there may be a violation of the Truth in Lending Act. Inflating income might be relevant if you were given a loan that you could not afford to repay and the lender sued you.
