Legal Question in Consumer Law in New York
Dirty Contractor
I had a contractor who is unlicensed do a Vinyl Siding job on my house. The work is really shoddy and I would like to try and get some money back. I had actually canceled his check but he managed to cash it at a check cashing place and now the check cashing place is suing me for the money. What are my rights?

Re: Dirty Contractor
You may have a defense against the check cashing place since you stopped the check because the contractor was unlicensed. By attempting to enforce the check the check cashing company is attempting to enforce an illegal agreement.
I would also file a complaint with the local Department of Consumer Affairs.
Mike.
