Legal Question in Consumer Law in New York
i gave a contractor a large deposit to do work on my house but he has been stalling for months always saying that he will start next week. He has an excuse every time I track him down. He has never provided a start date nor a completion date. What recourse do i have. Am i entitled to a start date and a completion date??????

You should never proceed with any work requiring construction without a valid and binding contract inclusive of time constraints. Your remedy is to warn the contractor that you want your money at once; otherwise you will file complaints with the district attorney's office for conversion of property, the New York State Attorney General's Office and the Better Business Bureau as well as the Town Building Dept. This should get his attention. Premised on your dealings to date, I do not believe you are dealing with a reputable or trustworthy business.
