Legal Question in Consumer Law in New York
Hotel charges
I stayed at the hotel Grand Hyatt in NYC for 2 nights. The bill was $526.25 but my credit card was charged $714.58. When I questioned this, the reply was :
At check-in $714.58 was held against your credit limit to cover room/taxes and incidental charges for your entire stay. At check-out your invoice total was $526.25, the different will be released within 24-72 hours depending on your bank. Should you have any questions please feel free to email
I have never had this happen before. Is this legal?

Re: Hotel charges
It is standard for several hotels. As long as you have the funds returned, then you don't have a claim, unless you want to claim on the issue that you were not informed of this practice. But that would only work if they really never informed you anywhere or at any time, and even then I haven't researched this enough to know if you would really have a claim then.
