Legal Question in Consumer Law in New York

Pay day loan threat

Good morning,

I am in desperate need of assistance on how to handle a phone call I received yesterday. I received a call for a person named Matt from Nationwide Mediation. His is demanding that I give him my credit card information over the phone for a pay day loan that wasnt paid back in 2007. I will admit that I was having some financial difficulty back them but I show paying off every pay day loan that I had. I asked him to email me over the apparent lender information that was requesting payment and he wouldnt do that. I also asked him to provide me with the companies name and he said he could release that information to me after my credit card went through. This person also stated that if I dont provide him with my credit card information tomorrow that the local authorities/police would show up at my workplace or home and arrest me for non payment ? Is there anything you can do to assist me with or point me in the proper direction ?

Thank you

You should insist upon provision of the loan documents in the mail; all the documents from day one without reservation. Demand the name and the phone number of the person who contacted you. If you have the phone no. on the caller ID you better save it and search to find where the call originates.

Otherwise, disregard the call. If they call you again, insist upon the above demand and make sure they understand that upon their failure to provide you with proper documentation, you will proceed to the District Attorney's Office or the Attorney General's Office to institute a complaint.

You can not be arrested; this is not 18th Century France or England.
