Legal Question in Consumer Law in New York

Sale of Vehicle

I sold a car to my doorman in NYC.

When I signed over the title, I did not

complete it because he did not pay

me in full at that time. He then told

me that he filled in ''gift'' as sales

price and his sister gave me a check

for $500 that I cashed. That was

$1000 short of the agreement. He

then told me after seeking payment

2 months later that he would not pay

the balance b/c he was owed the

money for car parking. This is absurd

and until I moved from the building I

was actually quite threatened by this

man. I would like to persue getting

the remaining balance since he did

not pay what he agreed but there

was no written agreement. The car

value is 3200 and the asking price as

he was my friend was 1500. How

should I handle this situation and

would it benefit me to go to small

claims? Please let me know. Thank-

you.

Re: Sale of Vehicle

You may file in small claims court. You must file in the county where the doorman resides.

Mike.
