Legal Question in Consumer Law in New York
We sold our boat last week in NY to a couple from Vermont. A mechanical problem we thought our mechanic had resolved has recurred. The buyers had the boat surveyed prior to purchase & found no problem either. The buyers are calling us leaving angry voicemails. We are concerned & have called the mechanic who will take a look at the boat this afternoon. Although we feel terrible about the situation (the buyers are stuck here in NY), our contract states the boat was sold in as is condition. Are we responsible?

Generally, the answer is no. If you sold the boat in "as is" condition and allowed the purchaser's to survey the boat, you are not responsible for subsequent problems.
