Age of Responsibility
If a lease is signed by a student who is under 21 years of age for an off campus apartment near a local college. Is the student or the student's parents legally responsible for the debt incurred?

Generally, contracts entered into with minors are voidable. However, contracts relating to living necessities may be enforceable especially if ratified. Thus, in this case it appears that the lease is valid and enforceable against the student. The parents should not be liable for the debt unless they agreed to be liable or were involved in procuring the lease and its terms.
