Cancellation of a service
I enrolled for a year on line with a social outing service. All sorts of events and gatherings are planned each month, and for an initial fee you can see the list and then choose to attend one, often for a small added fee plus the cost of the event. About a week after enrolling I realized I was not going to be in town to take advantage of it and also that the age range was wrong for me. According to the enrollment agreement I had 3 days in which to reconsider. I wrote (emailed) the company per their request to consider an exception and received a reply saying all they would consider would be freezing my membership for six months(the time I anticipate being gone)then allowing me to use the service after that. I don't anticipate wanting the service when I return and certainly don't want to pay for something I'm not using. Question: Do I have any legal leg to make them cancel my membership and stop charging me. I enrolled from my credit card and it is charged monthly for the service. Your response would be greatly appreciated.

If you followed the cancellation policy and they are still charging your card...cancel your credit card.

I like Deb's answer...you should check your agreement and the dates you say you joined and tried to opt out...and if they are in the wrong cancel your card and open another...also complain to the BBB and if the dating service is in NY (or even if they are not) complain to the NYS attorney general and the NYC Dept of Consumer affairs...all ammunitioin in case they try to get you to pay more...Good luck

The 3 days refers to a NYS requirement for consumer transactions. Unless you follow the terms exactly, you may not be able to void the agreement. Read the agreement over and be certain you did what is/was asked of you.
