Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York
collecting on a completed job
I am a small reputable landscape design build company. I completed a job restoring a deck, which required moving huge planters. The client's neighbor was also someone I worked for and did their terrace. Since the neighbor's planters were much smaller and required very little man hours, I did not bill her for it. I explained that moving the large planters and placing them would take much more work than her neighbor's and that I would have to billl for the labor. She agreed to this, but after several letters of trying to collect, she has only paid for the restoration. I have no written agreement. What is the next step?( the client is an attorney)

Small claims court, if the amount is within the jurisdiction, in the NYC Civil Cours ot the City Courts in other cities or in Town Justice Court where the defendant lives.
Good Luck

I agree with Robert. Be sure to bring photos of both your client's and her neighbor's planters.
