Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

collection agency harrassment

despite the fact that I told the collection agency that I was going to pay back the credit card debt I was told that if I did not pay the entire amount I was going to have my paycheck garnished, I was going to be sued, my credit was going to be ruined. I was told I was audacious for using money that I wasn't paying back, I was told that I should be making more money because I am a professional and have no excuse for not paying the creditors back. I told these people that I was sorry, that I was unemployed for six months and was working again and would pay them asap. Nothing I said was enough. Before you know it I was a sobbing mass of guilt. I told them I would do my best, but it wasn't enough. What can I do about this?

Re: collection agency harrassment

Complain to the FTC. You should be able to find them/complaint form on line. Or, sue them under FDCA. Info also to be found on line.

Also, tell them not to contact you again and if they do get names/numbers and complain again to FTC.
