Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

Collection letter from Hall & Associates

I recieved a letter stating we had a returned check to a pizza place from 3 years ago. The amount is 200.00, which i know can't be. We closed our account over 3 years a go and this is not showing on my credit report, but they have stated in the letter that I could be sued. When looked up the company the name was not Hall & Associates. Please advise as to what I should do.

Re: Collection letter from Hall & Associates

Write back to them, certified mail, denying the debt and requiring them to identify the creditor. Also state that all subsequent communications are to be in writing.
