collection

i have already been to small claims court about my collection from my former roommate. i had papers signed and notorized by her when the loan i took out was lended to her. i have documentation about everything. she never showed up to the court date and i won. now, i have to collect but when consulting with the court they say i may never get the money if she doesnt work full time. how do i go about getting the money she owes me? do i need to take it to federal court? is there some was to ensure i get the money back?

Re: collection

A judgment lasts for 20 years. So you have 20 years to collect.

You may want to purchase a transcript of judgment and file with the clerk in the county where the small claims action took place.

You may also try to locate the roomate's bank account. If you know the bank account, you can send the sheriff or marshal to collect.

Mike.
