Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York
collections on debt discharged in bankruptcy
I have had a chapter 13 discharged. I have now been receiving letters from debt collectors on behalf of a single company which had bought the debt from the original creditor. The debt was discharged in the bankruptcy. I called and told them but so far it has not stopped. While not a lot of times, after 5 letters it is annoying. I understand that they can't collect but who can help to get them to stop bothering me?

Re: collections on debt discharged in bankruptcy
Under the fair debt and collection act, and the bankruptcy law, a lawsuit could be started against the collection agency for damages. It is the best way to stop the harrasment.
