collections

verizon is trying to collect thru afni a debt that i believe was paid 12 years ago. is there a statute of limatations? can they do this

There is a 6 year statute of limitations. That does not mean they cannot attempt to collect the debt. It means that IF they sue you and you defend the action and include the defense that the statute of limitations has run you will win IF you are correct. If you do not mention the statute of limitations when you defend any action that is started you will have waived the defense...make sure you include that defense! Good luck.
