Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

Can my old company ruin my credit?

I have a corporate American Express under my old company and my name as guarantor. All of the charges on this card were for business expenses, nothing personal. I was not an owner of that company and when I left they agreed to pay the balance that is about $7000. They are either paying it late or not at all. What court would I go to to bring suit against them for the balance of the credit card? It's too much for small claims court but I don't have money to have an attorney handle this for me.

I have receipts for the expenses on this card, which include repairs for company trucks and gas, also payouts to repair shops for our clients.

If you guaranteed payment you are responsible regardless of whether the charges on the card were for business purposes or not. The company remains liable on the debt (if you are forced to pay it). You should not take any action to pau unless and until you are sued...and then in that proceeding you can bring an action against the company as the responsible party and you do not need a lawyer. You simply have to state the facts that the charges were in furtherance of your employment, were for business purposes and not for your personal use. If you are found liable then the company certainly should be held accountable to you...problem is, is the company solvent?
