Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

Do I need to comply?

My soon to be ex husband and I have been married for 5 years. We have two small children. When we got married, I moved into the small house that he owned ( had a mortgage on ). I had bad credit from a previous marriage, so when we decided to put an addition on the house, he got the home equity loans in his name. I make 2/3's more money than he does, so I paid more of the monthly expenses than he did. The addition has been sitting unsided...unfinished for 2 years now. He has serious problems with procrastination and depression. I implored him to get help, to go for marriage counseling, but he wouldn't face the problems. Now, I have filed for a divorce and he is asking that I continue to pay him monthly what I have been paying him until he gets the certificate of occupancy and refinances. From my experience, this could take years and years and years to accomplish. I won't be able to afford a studio apt. for me and my children if I give him any money. I must add that my job is unreliable and could end at anytime. He is a smart man who is totally capable of getting a real job. I am not asking him for alimony or child support. Nor am I asking for money from the house should he sell it. Legally, do I have to comply?
