Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York
Consumer credit account, Summons
I was served with a summons from Chase Manhattan bank stating that I entered into a Consumer Credit account with them in the ammount of around 12,000.
I do not have any knowledge of entering into a credit account with Chase Manhattan. I never had a credit card with them.
I wrote up a letter and sent it to the lawfirm, asking for proof that this is my debt. I also included a copy of the original summons.
So my actual question is ''what is a consumer credit account''?
also aside from contacting the lawfirm is there anyone else I need to contact to dispute the summons.

Re: Consumer credit account, Summons
If you received a Summons AND a complaint, you must Answer the complaint within a certain time frame (usually 20-30 days depending on service). If you do ot have an attorney, go to court and ask for pro-se office with help on submitting the Answer to the court.
Writing a letter to attorneys will not stop them from getting a default judgment against you and then proceeding to freeze your accounts and garnish your wage.
