Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

Credit card debts

recently i was awarded a divorce and the debts were divided equally. all debts were incurred under my maiden name since my husband never had credit. is there a way of setteling credit carddebts for lower amounts with the holder? and how can i erase the debt that my x was given by the courts on my credit rating?

thank you

Re: Credit card debts

This is an easy question. I would communicate/negotiate with the debtors that you have a court order/judgment that makes the debts allocable not to you, but your ex-husband. They may not go for it, but if it is done right they will 'clear' you on those debts. There are more questions and more information I need to give you further answers on how to deal with this issue, but, on the issue of you gaining further credit I assure you, you will have no problems.
