Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York
Credit card dept
I am devorced in Long Island. My xhusband ran up a charge card with his business stuff. In our seperation papers he agreed to pay it all off. In a seperate letter he wrote and noterized he promised to pay $500 a month until dept is paid and he is not. He is only paying min. and even skipped a month payment to the bill. Can I get him to pay the $500 as he promised towards the dept he made on my card?

Re: Credit card dept
yOU CAN GO TO Divorce court to enforce it, but that can be expensive.
Good luck getting the deadbeat to pay.
Consider filing for bankruptcy to get rid of the debt.

Re: Credit card dept
This can be analyzed as a matrimonial or a civil matter.
It is easy to getb a court order to have him honor his promise and then threaten to have him put in jail for contempt of court if he continues to refuse.
Few judges will put him in jail, but it might happen. A stick does not have to be 100% to be effective.

This is more of a matrimonial matter. Speak with your divorce attorney about your options including a potential drastic contempt order to show cause if needed.
Good Luck
