Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

credit card garnishment of wages

I'm asking if a credit card company can legally garnish wages. I owe $15,000. They are accepting $2,000 for now, with $300 a month for the next 6 months, and I was told within a year of this they want a settlement or they will put a lien on my house, which I have a home equity on. What can I do?

Re: credit card garnishment of wages

I find it highly unlikely a lien can be placed on your home without a judgment.

A garnishment can occur only after a judgment.
