Re: how to get credit

Congratulations . . . You should first of all try to obtain a secured credit card. There are many companies that offer these. You deposit a sum of $$$ and they give you a credit line of less than the money deposited. So if you deposit $500, you may get $250 to start. Over time as you show responsible payment habits they will increase your credit line.

In addition, certain types of cards, such as gas cards and dept. store charge cards are easier to get than credit cards.

Also, if your husband is a student look into whether there is a credit union at his school that he and you can join. Credit unions often provide more favorable products and terms to their members than commercial banks or savings and loan banks. If you bank at the credit union they may give you a credit card. If you can't find a credit union through the school contact the local credit unions in your area, some have flexible membership criteria.

Re: how to get credit

A co-signor on a school loan normally does not appear on a credit report so you will not be building the credit that you need to establish yourself.
