Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

credit legal document

Recently while checking my credit report found that there was a judgement placed against me, I am trying to find out where I can obtain a free copy of this document. My Son has the same name and it fell into my credit report and I would like to see the copy of the judgement that was placed against me so I can take care of it. Where can I obtain a free copy without subscribing to any website?

Re: credit legal document

Regarding your question "How can I find out about the judgment against me?"

In the PUBLIC RECORDS section of the credit report listing the judgment, note the information regarding COURT, PLAINTIFF, DATE FILED, DOCKET, OBLIGATION (i.e., $ amount). With that information you can go to the Clerk's Office of that Court and request the file and photocopy it (take a lot of small change with you). If the judgment is large enough to justify the cost you may want to hire a lawyer to assist you. I represent clients in these type of matters, seeking to set aside default judgment and restraints on bank accounts, and defend the lawsuit and/or negotiate a settlement with the creditor.
