Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

Deceased med. bills

When medical bills for the deceased remain with a balance, is the widow responsible? Also, do credit cards solely in the deceased's name holding an unpaid balance have to be paid? If not, what should the surviving party do to close these bills?

Re: Deceased med. bills

No. No living person has to pay the bills of a deceased person. ONLY if the account is jointly held between two or more persons...then the survivor may have to pay...Your facts do not state there is a joint account...so the answer is NO. You don't have to do a thing...it is not your debt.
