Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

Dept Collection

i am on social security disability with a terminal condition,i will never work again.it is my understanding that i am amune to any dept collection,judgements,ect.After rent,phone medical exspenses i have 12.00dollars left to live on.now a company from 8 years ago is trying with a letter from a lawyer to collect said dept.can they.

You might be judgment proof, that is, the money cannot be taken once they freeze assests or obtain a judgment if you prove the source of the funds, but you are not immune from suit.
