Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

Discovering a Judgment

I was reviewing my credit report when I noticed a judgment on my report. This was a college situation where I had sublet my room in an apt for the summer. All of us that lived there during the school year had sublet our rooms out in the summer months. It was a joint lease, I moved out of the area and did not return (to live in the apt). According to the sublease agreement they were to take on the responsibilities of the rent, I had plans on cleaning and final prep before end of lease. None of the residents decided to pay the last month rent, I was the only one of the original roommates held accountable, and had a judgment (individual) placed against me. I was never aware of this and this was not communicated to me at all, as well as the other original tenants. The landlord was supposed to let us know if our rent wasn't paid on time (he had current contact info) I am now accountable and do not know how to go about paying this, as I want it off of my credit report (I am able to pay in full).

Re: Discovering a Judgment

Why not contact the landlord? Offer to pay in return for removing this from your credit report. Get it in writing.
