Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

How do I go about filing a complaint against Cabrera and Associates?

I had received a letter from Cabrera and Associates to collect on a check for $225.00. When I had called them to make payment arrangements, I was asked where I work and when I got paid and when I refused to give that information, the person stated that they would alert the attorney that further action would be taken and hung up. I called right back spoke with someone else and wasn't treated much better. I do collections for my job as well and I don't treat anyone like this. The office informed me I have until Nov 14th to pay this amount and I know it will be very difficult for me and they won't ''allow'' me to go beyond that date. I have no problem paying it, I just have to do it little by little. They are not the least bit accepting of this. What would you suggest I do?

Send them a CEASE AND DESIST letter...by certified mail. that is a letter which essentially states that you don't want to be contacted by that agency...They can go to an attorney if they wish and you will be treated better...however, the amount is probably too small to go an attorney and they'll drop it...they just want to bother you so you'll pay it...MY ADVISE IS TO SEND THE LETTER AND THEN IGNORE ANYTHING YOU GET...except a summons and complaint.
