Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

find info on judgement

I have a judgement against me that is 7 yr. old.there has been no attempt to collect since it was a year old. I need to get rid of this (hopefully without paying). The judgement was from a divorce hearing that i was not present at. it was in a different county tan where i resided and still reside. Is there a way to find out the status of this judgement? What can i do?

Re: find info on judgement

A personal judgment is good for 20 years.

To find it, why not look in the county clerk's office where it is filed?

Good Luck
