Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

''hold'' placed on checking acct.

citibank informs me that sanford cohen (coen) and/or great seneca financial has

placed a ''hold'' on my checking account, saying that i owe them 1600. for what i

do not know. i have at no time received any notification that such an action was

imminent. are they allowed to do this without informing me? what are my

options to get it ''unfrozen'' without having to pony up the full amount?

obviously, time is of the essence.

thank you for your time-

Re: ''hold'' placed on checking acct.

They are executing on a judgment. Sometime in the past they obtained a judgment against you. The funds are releasd when you agree with them or when they go to court to get the funds lifted.

To try to lift the restraint, go to the court where the judgment was obtained and ask the clerk for an Order to Show Cause form to lift the restraint and vacate the judgment.

Good Luck.
