Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

hospital debt over 7 yrs old

I recently received a collection notice for a hospital bill that is over 7 yrs old. There is no judgement against me for it. Am I responsible for it? Can they garnish my wages for it?

Ignore it. If they persist, send them a registered letter demanding they provide proof and point out that the statute of limitations ran on the debt. DO NOT ADMIT OWING ANYTHING. DO NOT OFFER TO PAY SOMETHING TO SETTLE...NEVER ADMIT OWING ANYTHING...

1. The statute has run.

2. Without a judgment they cannot garnish.
