Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

judgement

My question is i have a credit card debt and i was being persued by a collection agency for it. We have agreed to terms and i have been paying them for the past ten months. 7 months into this i see a judgement against me on my credit report. Would this collection agancy file a judgement 7 months into my payments? I have never been late or missed a payment. What is a judgement and why haven't i ever been notified of this?

Re: judgement

Since I cannot review your report, I cannot confirm what you have indicated is contained in it...however, If you have a judgment against you it means that SOMEONE served (delivered) a summons and complaint upon you which demands you either pay the amount they want or appear in court and file and serve a response (answer) to their complaint. Many times service of the sumons and complaint is not made by personal, in hand, delivery...but by other less perfect methods...You should find out where the judgment was entered and immediately take legal steps to VACATE the judgment.
