I have a judgment against me that dates from 1992 in N.Y. The statute of limitations is 10 years. How do I go about gettinf this judgment removed?

A judgment against you is good for 10 years as a lien on real property, but it is collectable up to 20 years - even against real property. Although you are in north carolina, the judgment creditor can hire a lawyer to file the judgment in north carolina and to pursue you there.
Since the debt is over 16 years, you could either wait out the other 4 years, or you can compromise it for pennies on the dollar since it is so old.
