Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

Need help with old Judgments

I have three default judgments (Approximate original amount $4000, $3000 & $800) entered in NY back in 1998. They are all CC debt. Finally after 7 years they are all gone from my CR last year. But as I understand they are still outstanding till SOL expires. Also they can be renewed for longer periods. I left NY right around that time and now live in Iowa & thinking about buying a house. I would be lying in the mortgage application if I don't take care of these outstanding judgments.

How much risk is involved if I buy a house in Iowa now? What would be my best option? Not sure about the time frame for SOL. They know long time ago that I live in Iowa but never tried to transfer these judgments in Iowa. Will they do that if I buy a house? Need help!

Also there was another CC debt higher than those amounts listed above. The CR says it was sold to another lender. Is it possible to find if a judgment was ever filed for that debt? Please help!

Re: Need help with old Judgments

Property out of new york is not at direct risk from NY judgments...though they can be transferred to IOWA...they are not normally going to be found in a lien search...one day maybe all judgments will be linked...but not now. Judgments are good for 20 years and can be extended. Judgments would appear on your credit history..(or should) if it is not showing it probably does not exist.
