Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

My landlord that I had from June 08' to Sept 10' is suing me for $5,000. He says I did not pay him that much in rent from said time period. I of coursed paid him, but I paid him in cash and never received receipts. I asked him several times to provide me with receipts but he never did. He of course has no proof I didn't pay him, since payments were made in cash. Would a judge side with him with no proof?

Without receipts or regular documented withdrawals of cash from your bank account equal to the rent, most judges would be inclined to rule in favor of your landlord.

General rule: Never pay your rent in cash unless a receipt is provided!

Good luck!
